Pros

  • Segment was easy to set up and integrate with our website, mobile app, backend service, chatbots, etc., as the origin.
  • The tracking script is excellent and a massive improvement on trying to use google analytics.
  • The simplicity of use, good instruction, SDKs, and virtualized interfaces are all benefits.
  • Minimal maintenance is required once set up, and new sources or destinations are required
  • Very rich in integrations, a vast library of support tools, and a straightforward and structured onboarding program.
  • With Segment you are able to track all the events happening on your website, with a single integration, you can track from audience metrics to performance metrics or even events happening in the video player.

Cons

  • Integrations with CRMs still complicated because of the way to match information into a deal
  • Integration with other tracking solutions is far from being ideal.
  • As with any powerful platform, setting up Segment does take time, and anyone who is planning on using it should have enough time dedicated for the process.
  • When changing the event type in the event tester, the previously entered user identifiers are cleared, slowing down identify/track debugging
  • All of their 'AI' stuff is a bit markety to marketers.
  • It is pricy!! The monthly cost is absurdly high, especially in big projects, since the price is based on the number of single users tracked per month.
